About Us
Zero Fibres is a New Zealand owned consulting company specialising in the commonly used and once termed 'miracle fibre' that is called Asbestos. With changes to the Health and Safety in Employment Act it is now becoming an all too familiar word that not many people know much about. Our objective is to educate and manage ACM (asbestos containing materials) in your workplace and homes. Exposure to airborne asbestos fibres can be harmful to all of us but in many cases ACM products do not form a hazard until they have been disturbed or disrupted.
Asbestos Containing Materials were used for a number of different products in the construction of buildings from the 1940's up to and including the 1980's. What sets Zero Fibres apart from other consulting and so called Asbestos Specialists is that our director Joe Fenton holds a current Certificate of Competence from Worksafe NZ for Asbestos Removal. Joe has worked on a number of large scale sites including Christchurch,Wellington and the Bay of Plenty.
Our Services
Building Surveys
Zero Fibres will come to your place of work, plan a consult, take samples and intrusively search for possible asbestos products in and around your building.Once samples have been tested by an independently accredited laboratory a report will be issued detailing location and condition of all ACMS to finally construct an onsite Asbestos Hazard register for your place of work

Sampling and Consulting
The only definitive way to find out if Asbestos is present in a building product is to get a sample tested by an independent accredited laboratory. Zero Fibres will come to your site, take a sample using the correct procedures as outlined under the new Worksafe guidelines, send the sample off then report back with either a positive or negative result with recommendations for moving forward.

Modern Contemporary Art Building Christchurch
April 08 2014
As part of the renovations to this building, it was found the internal gutters were lined with a bitumen waterproofing compound that used asbestos as a binding agent to seal the gutter components together. An airtight enclosure was constructed on top of a mobile scaffold in order to remove the friable asbestos under a safe and controlled environment. After air testing was performed at each parapet, the enclosure was deconstructed, the scaffold moved and then the process was repeated once again.
Contaminated Soil, Taupo
September 03 2014
Two residential properties on this site deemed for demolition were burnt down in a controlled fire. The problem was that not all of the ACM materials were removed from the buildings prior to the fire. Samples were taken from various areas on the site most of which came back positive. An entire decontamination of the site was the only course of action resulting in hundreds of tonnes of building materials and hundreds more tonnes of soil carted away from site and sent to a registered landfill. Under NZ law ALL ACM material must be covered in two layers of 200 micron polythene and buried at least a metre in the ground.
Centaurus Road, Christchurch
November 01 2014
The exterior blockwork on this earthquake damaged property had paint that tested positive for Asbestos. Waterblasting Asbestos Containing Material is not an accepted code of practice due to the high water pressure causing excessive airborne fibres (asbestos is only a hazard when it can be inhaled from the air in which we breathe. The accepted removal methodology was to form an enclosure around the house perimeter, completely remove the blockwork in its entirety, air test and pull down the enclosure.
